KOKOMO, Ind. --
Police said a Kokomo man accidentally shot himself in the genitals while
robbing a convenience store early Tuesday.
Kokomo police said they were called to a Village
Pantry store at about 4:20 a.m. after a call from a clerk.
The female clerk told police that a man came into
the store with a semiautomatic handgun, grabbed her hair and demanded cash and
cigarettes before handing her a white cloth bag, WRTV-TV in Indianapolis
reported.
The clerk said that as she retrieved the
cigarettes, she heard a gunshot and turned to confront the man, who yelled that
he had shot himself.
"The bullet traveled through his right testicle
... and then into the bottom part of his leg," Kokomo police Lt. Don Whitehead
said.
Police said the man, whom they identified as
25-year-old Derrick Kosch, grabbed the bag full of cash and fled the store.
In-store surveillance cameras showed that Kosch
shot himself as he placed the gun into the waistband of his pants, police said.
Shortly after the robbery, dispatchers got a call
from someone in a home located several blocks away from the store about a man
who was shot.
When officers arrived, they found Kosch. The home
belongs to his grandmother, police said.
"He said he had been shot (and)
someone was trying to rob him," said the grandmother, who was not named. "In
the meantime, I found out that he was trying to rob somebody else."
Kosch was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Officers said that while at the home, they found
the bag of money that was taken from the convenience store and clothes seen on
the robber in the surveillance tape.
Police said Kosch was arrested on robbery and
criminal recklessness charges. Police said they were looking for the gun.

Somaya Reece
The Many Sides
Cover Story
By Andrew Bess
Somaya
Reece has appeared in movies such as American Psycho and The Scorpion King and
appeared on TV with hit shows like Entourage and as a guest on Dr. Phil. Not to
mention her gracious looks have allowed her to appear in over 35 national
commercials and campaigns from Ralph Lauren to Pepsi, lingerie, and even
swimsuit catalogues. Recently dubbed the number 1 Latina music profile on
Myspace.com, this beauty also
happens to be a DJ. Reece’s satellite radio show, “The Buzz” is syndicated
worldwide and is the number 1 hip-hop show on
Nowlive.com. Looks, deejaying,
and sex appeal are on Somaya’s mind.
You’re the main DJ for show called “The Buzz”
on Nowlive, Satellite radio. How did you get started doing that?
I was offered a couple of spots on larger radio
stations from appearing on Wild 96.1 FM in San Bernardino. But “The Buzz” gives
me freedom. I actually don’t have to go into the studio. This show allows me to
interact with listeners and fans. There is an interactive chat room for the
listeners so it’s really involved. The great thing about that is you really get
to know your fans and interact with them.
So what kinds of topics do you get into on
the show?
My show is about everything you can think of.
Free giveaways, whatever is on your mind, all the latest celebrity gossip, and
freestyle battles judged by hit producers. Also there are interviews with
celebrities and featuring undiscovered talent. There are also fun segments like
my prank calls to your mom, dad, your boss and the hot or not show!
How has the internet helped you get to where
your radio gigs and music are at now?
I already had experience before I promoted on
the internet with ads with Colgate and Pepsi. But at the time I didn’t have
money for a publicist so I used the internet. I never knew it would blow up to
be what it is. Internet has been a really great vehicle that has helped me with
publicity. By the time I can catch up on Myspace I will have over 750,000
friends.
Being easy on the eyes, do you find that
using sex appeal works in your favor?
No, however it depends on the individual looking
at it. There is nothing wrong with having sex appeal; it's how you carry it.
You said that it doesn’t help. Could it?
I don't flaunt my sex appeal nor do I use it to
gain things. Some people think I don't show it off enough and others like the
little I choose to show. I believe that I do what is comfortable for me. The
sex appeal I choose to have is being an independent yet family oriented woman.
I believe people are drawn to me because of that.
Has your looks ever effected how guys would
approach you?
I never give off the vibe that I am looking for
someone, so most men are scared to talk to me. It may be my height or figure
who knows. I am a no makeup, jeans and hoodie kind-of-girl so I am not too
intimidating. But I definitely know that although I am at the grocery store in
a pair of sweats men are scared to approach me. I don't get it, I consider
myself pretty friendly as long as I am approached in a respectful manner. So
hello what are you waiting for [laughs]?
Do you think you have gained any jobs off of
looks alone?
You definitely don't get by with looks. If it
was that easy I think everyone would be famous there are so beautiful woman out
there. I think many people get very confused with me personally. They look at
me then look at my talent and people scratch their heads in disbelief. They
can't believe a package with talent can exist but it does. I was never the
pretty girl growing up so I have never looked as using looks to get gigs. I
have refused many great contracts due to a "based on looks” alone gig. I am no
ones Barbie I am more than that. I have something to offer the world and I am
glad people see that in me. However beauty is a blessing!
You have over 600 thousand friends on Myspace.
Why do you think you have such a strong following on the Internet?
The reason it began is due to my commercials on
television. One in particular was a Pepsi commercial. I began a Yahoo group
that was very popular and shot to be the number 1 on the web. Naturally the web
is based on surface beauty and that is not a bad thing unless you are abusing
of it with dirty photos and unladylike behavior. However you do not stand the
test of time which I have, without having talent. At this point the popularity
is growing due to the growth in my career. I self promote my television
appearances, my music, magazines, radio and of course the interacting I do with
my fans. So the Internet is a great thing nothing to be ashamed of considering
before I hit the net I had an extensive resume.
How have you used your looks to get what you
wanted?
I once used my looks to get a free bag
of oranges for a homeless person does that count? I'm serious.
Do you feel women artists have lost their
sexiness in hip-hop?
No! Depending on the eye of the beholder, sexy
never left. There are many women in hip hop who are beautiful. Not only on the
surface of beauty but their powerful lyrics hold a sexy in them. It's different
these days though. Many artists I would have never thought to see in FHM or
Maxim are promoting their albums in these magazines. I think that Missy, Mc
Lyte, Eve, Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, and Trina are very sexy. Their lyrics matched
with their sex appeal equals a powerhouse!
How do you feel about video vixens using
their looks and bodies to sell sex in music videos?
Videos all look the same to me these days.
However, I absolutely love to watch choreographed or character style videos
like a Missy video or Chamillionaire's Hip-Hop Police. I mean those are really
fun to watch because they have a certain type of value you do not get from
others. I think that every woman in these new videos have a choice. They
probably want to do it so I don't judge them. Some of the vixens these
days will do anything to be in the videos to get with the rappers or singers.
So they go all out and the video ends up looking like a short adult film. I
think women's bodies should be celebrated but not in that fashion. Sex
sells and I doubt it will change anytime soon! It all breaks down to the
likings of the new age pop culture along with the lyrical content in hip hop
these days. The videos have to match the song I suppose. I watch them, but the
vixens in my videos will be celebrated as POWER and not sex.
You lived in some tough neighborhoods growing
up. What neighborhoods did you grow up in and how did that make you strive to
become successful?
I grew up in South Central Los Angeles and the
Pico Union districts. To be honest I don't think it was a big deal because I
that is where I lived I did not know any different. However I lived in the
middle of a gang war, drugs, and murder. Nothing was beautiful on how I grew up
it was ugly. I was taught to work hard no matter what I was a victim of drive
by shootings and hate crimes. I remember almost bleeding severely on a pavement
thinking I was going to die. But for some reason I survived, a few times. It
was for a reason, to teach, to spread positivity, to show the world you can
survive no matter what environment you are brought into. We were very poor my
family is immigrants that came to this country to give us a better life. My
siblings, parents, aunt all lived in a garage over dirt; it was all we could
afford. The day I knew I had to get out was when I would help my mother clean
mansions in Beverly Hills on the bus. I remember one of her employers yelled at
us and said we were good for nothing immigrants. I was so angered I promised my
mother I would be somebody and I would get us out of these situations. Not
having enough food, heat, living in a garage, looking at my mother cry because
she was treated unfairly launched me in a mission to success.
You are the number 1 Latina on Myspace. How
did you get that title?
Somehow I ended up in the top 100 profiles and
being the Latina on here. My Myspace profile launched up to the number one
spots as a Latina. It's pretty cool considering there are other Latinas on here
but I got the spot.
So let me get this straight, you act, model,
DJ, rap, sing, and dance? What don’t you do?
I don't do dishes or wash floors! Seriously I
used to get into a lot of fights with the boys when I was little. And the boys
parents would come tattle tale on me to my parents. So my punishment was always
dish duty and floors I HATE IT!
What’s the show all about?
Alright, let’s talk a little bit about your
music. What is the deal with it and how have you progressed over time?
My music is unlike others that are out there. I
am influences by Missy, JLO and Gwen. I am very involved in the making of the
records, from the beat, to the writing. It is a combination of rap, singing, a
little bit of punk. I used to be a b-girl so my music has that feel to it which
is why I love Missy. I put my entire life experience into my lyrics and I try
to make it as fun as possible. When I first started I had no idea how to do
anything. I was used to doing this on the streets not in a real music studio.
So I went through a lot of different ideas until I finally found my sound. I
wouldn't say I ever sucked I would say I was completely inexperienced. Everyone
starts from the bottom to the top. You learn on the way up. If you don't learn
or develop then maybe this business is not for you.
Renaissance woman also acts. What movies and
television shows have you appeared in?
I started from the bottom with no speaking parts
to smaller parts to being offered films with larger scenes in them. I generally
play the tough girl who is either just really bitchy or she is a kick ass type
of girl. I have also played the sexy girl in comedy roles. I recently finished
working on a David Ren film, Shanghai Kiss (2007) the movie is called
The Girl from the Naked Eye I played the lead actors girlfriend. It is an
action type of film and if all goes as planned one of my songs will go into the
film. I played a music video girl 50 cents girl in season 3 of HBO's Entourage.
I had a sizeable amount of lines in the TV show so it was awesome. I was in a
film GB 2525 with all the boys from training day the gangsters. I play
the lead gangster girl and I kick a lot of guys’ butts in the film. [Laughs] I
was also in Miss Castaway a comedy with Eric Roberts and Michael
Jackson. Yes, I said Michael! I play the lead actors love interest but in the
film I play a very stern character she's a little bit of a mean girl. There
are many more but these are my favorites.

To break out our Super Bowl
issue we’ve got the Sweet ~N~ Sexy
Michelle. Welcome to the VBLAZIN Couch. So let’s get right into it.How'd you get into modeling?
I started out by
booking my first photo shoot with a photographer in Jacksonville and I had a
lot of fun and was amazed how my pictures came out, I just wanted to take more
and more!
I have always
wanted to pursue modeling but waited until I was a little older so I would be
able to travel.
So what have you
learned NOT to do since you've been in the biz?
I have learned
Not to ever be late to a shoot, always have everything you need, be prepared
that is very important because it makes for a good impression also have a
positive attitude! Do NOT be nervous it shows in your pictures. I have also
learned that it is definitely not as easy as it seems, it is hard work but it
pays off!
Where do you
want to go with your modeling?
I would like to
go as far as to make this my career, do print work and be feared in as many
magazines and covers as I possibly can. I want everyone to know who I am! I
would also like to get into some acting if the opportunity arises.
If you could
have any job in the world other than modeling what would it be?
Who knows… Right
now I am a fulltime student at USF going for Business Admin. So I will one day
become a CEO of a company so I definitely will have another job besides
modeling because we all know it doesn’t last forever.
Where do you see
yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years I
see myself in a big ass mansion sipping on some cocktails enjoying my life with
all of my friends and my boyfriend just living in lavish!
Do you have a
website?
Yes, I have my
space but not an official website yet but coming soon…. But you can see me on
myspace.com/Mashelliey
Are you a good
dancer?
Of course,
especially after a few drinks!
Would you ever
spice things up by dancing for your man?
Ooh yeah, I do it already that
is about all I can say about that before I start talking X-rated!
Does looks mean
a lot to you when you're looking at the opposite sex?
Yes, I will
admit looks matter to me to an extent but of course they aren’t everything. I
mean who wants a hot ass boyfriend that is a complete prick! You have to be at
least somewhat attracted to someone to have a spark.
What type of man
do you like?
The type of man
that I like hmm… he has to be supportive in anything that I want to pursue and
has to be laid back and ready for anything because with me in always doing the
unexpected. You gotta be able to handle this!
What's the
wildest thing you've ever done?
I would have to
say one of the wildest things I have ever done was at my friends wedding I was
so wasted that I stumbled across the dance floor with a court in my hand during
the father daughter dance in front of her whole family. Another wild thing I
have done was for my senior prank a few friends and I threw raw fish all over
the school, spray painted the walls class of 2004 and bleached the grass c/o
2004!
What's the
wildest ting you ever saw?
MY ex in a rage!
Ahh
Where did you
grow up?
I grew up in a
small town New Port Richey Florida, which for those of you who don’t know where
that is, it’s close to Tampa.
What's your
favorite gadget?
This is a tough one but I
would have to say my I pod because if I don’t have my music I go crazy. Music
is everything to me, it’s my high!
So I hear you're
a big music lover. What's in your CD player now?
Yes, music is my
life; I listen to anything that has a good beat and songs that I can get up and
shake it to. I love T-Pain, Lloyd, The Dream, Jagged Edge, 112, just to name a
few.
What did you
listen to growing up?
Growing up I
listened to pretty much the same type of music but I used to listen to more
techno and dance, but also hip-hop and R&B
Turn ons:
Sexy eyes, cute
smile, sense of humor, outgoing, great personality, and sex appeal!
Turn offs:
CHEATERS, LIARS,
SMOKERS, guys that think they know it all, and think they can get any girl they
want.
Is there
anything that really pisses you off?
Being broke
pisses me off , people on the road that have no clue how to drive, I could go
on forever…
What makes you
the most happy?
#1 eating,
shopping, drinking, spending money, spending time with my boyfriend and driving
my sexy benz lol.
What do you do
for fun when you're not modeling?
I like to ride dirt bikes with
my boyfriend, go camping, swimming, hang at the beach drinking and Shopping of
course .
Are you a
designer label type of girl?
No, not really,
I don’t see the point in spending a bunch of money on one outfit when you can
get like 3 cute outfits that aren’t designer labels that look just as good or
better.
Are you the
romantic laid back type or are you a wild child?
I am a
combination of both, I like to get crazy and party a lot but I also like to
have time to just relax and chill at home.
If I gave you the floor to do shout outs,
promotions, or whatever. Who would make that list?
Well first off I have to thank Vblazin magazine for
featuring me thank you Vic! I have to thank the awesome photographer C.E Wiley

Sure
we all love someone, but when a woman loves a man – it’s a whole different
meaning entirely!
I know a lot of women like to play games, same with you men out there. There is
nothing wrong with playing games as long as you and your partner are on the
same team.
When a woman loves a man, there is NOTHING she will not do for him, even if she
knows it’s wrong.
Some of you men out there… now notice I said “some” take advantage of our love.
Now just to be fair, there are also some women who do the same. When you know
that a woman truly and sincerely loves you – love her back and if you don’t
feel the same way, please tell her. Sure it might be heartbreaking on her part,
but you might still be able to salvage a friendship with her.
By now you should all know that I am a strong believer in communication. If you
feel like you want to tell her she’s beautiful or she has a nice dress on, no
matter how corny it may sound, we hear the honesty in it. Please tell us, every
compliment is rewarded with a smile, hug, or kiss or maybe something else…
Every relationship is unique and every man and woman is different, but when
love is involved it can be magical!
Now on the other hand, I know plenty of love/hate relationships! I have a
couple of friends both men and women who argue, who fight, who throw things at
one another, the list goes on! When you ask them, why the stay together? All
they say is: “I love her.”
When love is unhealthy it’s hard to leave or to let go, but we as women have
this way of loving from a distance. We can still love you men out there even
from far away and our thoughts have a way of traveling right to you.
What Women Want in Love is to let you know that she loves you, and that she is
there for you. What you do is your choice, so be wise men!
As always…
“I am only one woman, if you really want to know – just ask.”
